Three of My Favorite Contemporary Artists...
These are three of my favorite contemporary artists. I admire their talent, skill and devotion to their art. Their works are a result of pure passion. Featured are paintings and the links to the sites of Melissa Cooke, Alyssa Monks and Pamela Wilson. Yes, they also happen to be radiant and exceptionally beautiful women! That was pure coincidence. First and foremost, I see their energy, discipline and skill. They remind me of how much I have to learn . They inspire me to be better and to remember above all else, that it devotion to a greater purpose that matters most to me. They are artists in thought, in spirit and in action. Enjoy!

Sweet Simplicity: Jude's Upcoming Art Exhibit

There is nothing sweeter and more simple than the beauty and love of a child. The purity of their spirit, the honesty of their emotions, the simplicity of their needs, inspire me to believe in something greater and more Divine. Children are often our greatest teachers. They remind me never to dismiss the power of kindness, hope and true love.
My exhibit, "Sweet Simplicity" will be on display:
July 2, 2009 -Fall, 2009
The Bank

Recent Works: In Process
In January I started several works that I wasn't able to finish for my solo exhibit.I began one image of a pouting angel immediately after the show, using little Miss Maggie as a model.I want to explore texture and materials more fully, creating a 3-dimensional and sculptural effect in my painting. The wild flowers in "Pouting Angel" were created using clay, wood, metal washers, screws, aluminum tacks and screening.
My friend Carol who is a blind sculptor, experiences her world predominantly through touch. I want to create work that is texturally rich so that she can "see" my dreams with her hands and fingertips. These works are all "in process" and hopefully will be completed soon.

"Serendipity": Solo Exhibit

Hanging show in 9 days and about 10 paintings to complete.
So you are all invited. I wonder if viewers will be able to detect which paintings were created in my most "colorful" states of pure, unadulterated frenzy.

After many layers of wax brushstrokes, I step back and objectively look at the composition from all directions to see what the painting expresses to me. I look to see a physical response in my work, especially a desire to reach out and touch the painting. It is my intention for you to have a sensory and a visual experience with this work.

My work is about the preservation of one's "spirit" and dreams. I paint primarily with oils and have recently begun to explore the technique of collage, using an array of patterns and colors, in a quilt like motif, to achieve rich texture and a "loose" visual narrative. My objective is to layer, juxtapose and ‘stitch’ together seemingly unrelated materials and images in an effort to create a single interesting composition. In many ways the process reminds me of one’s life: diverse experiences and meaningful "moments", pieced together to create the distinctive fabric of a person’s existence.

Fixation
This painting is entitled,"Fixation." Once again my model is my daughter, Christina. Her beauty is very unique. At only 18, she simultaneously exudes a youthful innocence and sensual maturity. I am able to paint her as a young woman or as a child and so she continues to inspire my work.I focused upon color and pattern in this oil painting. Perhaps you can notice the influence of Gustav Klimt. It is still a work "in process" but I am becoming more confident in my handling of the brush and of my palette.
I actually like this piece. I believe it offers a glimpse of my capabilities as an artist. Patience, practice and discipline...

How Long Have I Been Sleeping?

These images are details of a larger composition, entitled, How Long Have I Been Sleeping?
It is another work "in process" and a significant transitional piece for me. It reveals a marriage of everything that I love about art and painting in particular: color, the human portrait
as subject matter, texture, pattern and symbolism. My daughter, Christina and Lillianna, the beautiful daughter of painter, Joseph Breza and his wife Emily, from Santa Fe, New Mexico,
served as models for this piece.
The title makes reference to the fact that I abandoned my painting for nearly 20 years. My "awakening" has made me more passionate and aware of the beauty that surrounds me, that is within me, that inspires me to want to paint every possible moment. Someone once
told me that even when I am not physically painting, I am still creating with my eyes and in my mind. At nearly 45, I have truly "awakened".
Only those who have awakened know that they were sleeping. -Jim Paredes
