Recent Works: In Process

In January I started several works that I wasn't able to finish for my solo exhibit.I began one image of a pouting angel immediately after the show,using little Miss Maggie as a model.I want to explore texture and materials more fully, creating a 3-dimensional and sculptural effect in my painting. The wild flowers in "Pouting Angel" were created using clay,wood,metal washers,screws,aluminum tacks and screening.
My friend Carol who is a blind sculptor, experiences her world predominantly through touch. I want to create work that is texturally rich so that she can "see" my dreams with her hands and fingertips.These works are all "in process" and hopefully will be completed soon.Pouting Angel

Works in Process:Simplification

I continue to deliberate about my choice of subject matter and technique, what to paint and how to do it. I am abandoning color for awhile and concentrating on value. It simplifies the process of painting especially since I am only using titanium white and Paynes grey in my palette.

I will incorporate color again soon but this monochromatic series (there are 5 paintings in all) feature elements that I have been exploring in my most recent work:the patchwork of the quilts,sleeping children, pattern,texture and koi. I do feel as though I am "drawing" with paint. It is a relaxing process.
